Hi there!

To be honest if it's that simple, then there is nothing better to use than good old Microsoft Excel! Thats if you have MS Office already of course. If you don't OpenOffice have their equivalent called Calc

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, yes I have excel and think I will use that as suggested.
I also have access but haven't used it for ages so I think excel would be easier... I'll get started

Hi Anne, I'm guessing this is an OFFLINE database you wanted, just so you could keep a record of your customers?

James.

Yes James, an offline database is what I meant, started it today and I'm sure it'll be fine for what I want. Thanks all for your help.

Anne

No worries then
I was going to suggest something very simple that I do and that is just use notepad.
If you create a folder and then just put loads of text files in there with the info of all your customers (each on a separate file) then you can search everything just using the normal windows search. You type in Sussex and it'll return all the .txt files that contain Sussex in the content. Dead easy and simple to back up

I guess if you want something more complicated like ordering your customers according to how much they have spent then you're probably better to do it in a spreadsheet

James.

for simple a database excel is probably the best and most user friendly, if you want to make something a little more sophisticated you could try Access, it can be tricky to set the database up but very usefull if you're storing large amounts of data

I did have a look at access, but its been ages since I used it and I couldn't remember it, so excel was the easier option
