help with getting the business name out there - MYBF

I would like to advertise my new business, but im not sure how to do it. At the moment i have gone on a couple of local web forums etc. I would like to go out there and knock on some doors and see what people think to the service I offer but everywhere i look people are complaining about "cold callers" any ideas how to get my name out there without annoying people.

Ps im selling car spares, bulbs, wipers etc at near enough half the price at motorworld and halfords (i used to work at motorworld) and have noticed that people want to save money and get good service.

I think Tradespace is pretty good too - I've had a few referrals from there. Could you create a press release about your business and fire it off to a few trade publications or local press? Or get some flyers done with some kind of special offer? I think online networking forums are great for making people aware of your business.
